JW Read is an independent, unofficial app for tracking personal reading of publications from the JW library. It is not produced, endorsed, or affiliated with the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society or jw.org. The app is developed and maintained by an independent developer.
By default, everything the app needs is kept locally on your device's storage:
None of this leaves your device unless you explicitly enable cloud sync (see below). Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes it permanently — the developer holds no copy.
If you choose to sync across devices or use group features, JW Read walks you through "Connect Supabase": you authorize the app, via Supabase's own OAuth login, to create and manage a database project in your own Supabase account. From that point on, your reading data, plans, groups, and join codes are stored in that project — one you own, can inspect, export from, or delete at any time from your own Supabase dashboard.
The developer does not operate a central server and cannot see, access, or export data from your Supabase project. Supabase (the infrastructure provider you chose when connecting) processes that data on your behalf under its own privacy policy and terms — see supabase.com/privacy.
If you join or create a reading group, the minimum needed to make that work — your group membership, your reading progress on the shared plan, and your device/account identity — is visible to other members of that same group, inside your (or the group creator's) Supabase project. Group data is never visible to the developer.
Reading reminders and group‑activity alerts are scheduled and shown locally on your device. Group‑activity notifications require the app to periodically check your Supabase project for updates over the network while running in the background; this traffic goes directly between your device and your own Supabase project, not through the developer.
You can export your data to a file from within the app (Settings → Export) and restore it later, on this device or another. Exported files are saved to storage you control and are never transmitted anywhere by the app.
JW Read is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children. Because all sync data is stored in an account the user themselves creates and controls, a parent or guardian setting up sync for a family member does so under their own Supabase account.
Uninstall the app to remove everything stored on your device. To remove synced data, delete the Supabase project from your own Supabase dashboard — this immediately and permanently deletes your reading data, plans, and group memberships stored there.
If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and the new version posted at this same address.
